WHAT IS IT ABOUT THOSE NOISY MOTORCYCLES?

Harley owners in particular love to make their bikes as noisy as they can.

There's a certain quirk, a slight aberration in behaviour if you will, common most Harley Davidson motorcycle owners.  It seems they just can't buy it from the dealer and leave it the hell alone.  No, they seem determined to change the pipes for noisy ones.  They seem to think that noisier is better, but that's not the case.

A theory that a noisier bike is easier to notice if you are driving a car holds no water.  The frequency range in which these sputtering, stammering, roaring motorcycles in below human ability to track it.  Like a bass speaker on your stereo, it just fills the air with a noise that cannot be tracked with the human ear.

The result of all of this is that these bikes are entirely too loud and, like Harley Davidsons through the years, they are hardly endowed with a great dependability.  No, the old expression goes like this, "Whenever you see a Harley Davidson it's owner is trying to get it started, having it put on the back of a truck, or just 'rapping it up' to show off.

Well, to all of you Harley Davidson riders who love it loud.
