A woman in Coachella, California, has been sentenced to a year in jail and seven
years probation for throwing a bag of puppies away in a dumpster. She was convicted of seven counts
of felony animal cruelty and seven misdemeanour counts of animal
abandonment.

MEANWHILE: A woman in Orangeburg County, South
Carolina has
been sentenced to jail for what amounts to 18 months with time off for good behaviour. There will be no probation afterward. She was convicted of felony child
endangerment for stuffing her newborn baby into a plastic bag and tossing him
into a dumpster. The baby, Thank God, has
survived and is doing well.

SUMMARY: How in Hell is it that people who abuse animals are routinely subjected to harsher legal and civil penalties than those who abuse humans such as veterans, elderly, and children?
