WHY CAN'T HE BE MORE LIKE KEVIN MILLER?

"Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” – Sir John Dalbert-Acton

Dateline Boise, Idaho – What happens when a small-town talking head shows the hubris of a big-city prosecutor in a “B” Grade Gangster Film?  I’m going to play some clips of what happened recently when Nate Shelman, the afternoon ‘drive-by’ talking head had a candidate for governor on ‘his show’.

---------------------------------------------------

This is 'HIS' show, and don't you forget it!

---------------------------------------------------

I found his to be a deplorable form of on-air ‘yellow journalism’.  It’s probably the worst I’ve heard in a long time.  Many people agree with me and some phoned in to express their displeasure at Nate’s heavy-handedhate-filled’ radio interview of a Gubernatorial candidate for the State of Idaho.  Of course, as always, they were dismissed because Nate is convinced that his ‘always right.

In this clip, Nate homed in on his guest’s [dare I say ‘quarry's?’] self-confessed drug abuse in his younger years.  It’s here that Nate’s fixation begins to grow beyond the bonds of reasonable etiquette.  Of course, Nate is not known for his polite and classic style of interview because he doesn’t have a polite and classic style.  He seems more of a ‘hit and run’ blowhard than a credible radio talk show host.  Listen to this clip, and let the adventure begin!

[Clip #1]

Did you hear his guest’s calm and steady demeanour?  Did you hear Nate going ‘off the rails’ as he starts to unravel in the face of someone he cannot control?  He just can’t penetrate the barrier of solid honesty honesty presented by Candidate Ed Humphreys.  Humphreys simply and politely refuses to provide Nate with a ‘play-by-play’ of his life.  Having been drug-free for many years, he just doesn’t see the need to go there.  Nate, however, is already fixated on his ‘need to know’ the names and quantities of drugs Humphreys had partaken of in his youth.

Reprehensible as this little blivet was, classic Shelman remained in his “I ask the questions.” mode.  He refused to have an actual conversation [dialogue?  hell no] as he so often does, driven by hubris of incalculable proportion.  Like some ‘big-city’ investigative reporter [which he certainly is not] he kept badgering this poor man.  Alas, but to no avail.  Let’s go to the next clip.

[Clip #2]

In this clip there is a telling moment as Nate spits out, “I come up with the questions here.” in a simple but damning statement which clearly betrays the “I” hubris of this little man.  I come up with the questions here.”  This shows you just who Nate Shelman really is and whom he services.  It demonstrates a clear lack of ‘community service’ or respect for anybody beyond his reflection in the mirror.  No … this show is there only to feeds his overblown ego.

----------------------------------------------------

HAIL THE KING … GOD SAVE THE KING

----------------------------------------------------

It is obvious that Nate has carved out his own little kingdom at KBOI Radio and will defend his ‘realm’ without any pretense of courtesy, manners, or even common decency.  His three hours on the air are ‘entertainment, and opinion shock radio’, hardly ‘information radio’.  Resting on a bedrock of self-opinion and pseudo-entertainment Nate Shelman has found a home in Boise, Idaho.

This man could use some schooling by the area’s only true talk show host, a man who literally ‘runs rings around’ him in every way.  That would be Kevin Miller, a man who defines ‘public service’ and ‘talk radio’ as a source of education and information with a little entertainment tossed in for good measure.

WHY CAN’T NATE BE MORE LIKE KEVIN?

----------------------------------------------------

Let’s go to the next clip …

[Clip #3]

This guy is a goon!  Now the claws are out and fangs shine in the light of his small studio.  Nate goes ‘out for blood’.  Here he issues an ultimatum to his ‘guest’ as he demands to know a list of drugs Humphreys had used so many years ago.  Although completely irrelevant, that never stops Nate.  Listen to this clip one more time, and tell me if Nate hasn’t gone ‘over the top’ with his apparently insane ‘need to know’.  Let’s listen again.  Let’s go back to clip 3 again.

[Clip #3]

There you have it.

This guy watches too much ‘Perry Mason’ or too many “B” re-run episodes of 'The Untouchables'.  Unable to see anything but the blood of his prey, Nate again issues an angry ultimatum to the man who came in as a guest and has now been shoved into the corner like a wounded deer in front of a bear.  Nate is clearly feeling more than just ‘in charge’ but deep down he knows he’s already going down the drain at this point.  Like many great dictators of our time, he can’t see the ground rushing up to meet him as his parachute slowly unravels.  He actually seems to be getting off on this megalomaniacal quest for the irrelevant.

Let’s listen to this next clip:

[Clip #4]

By now the score is clear and Nate knows it.  He’s getting pissed!  The score is clearly in favour of Mr. Humphreys.  It’s Humphreys: 10 and Shelman: 0.  By now Nate has lost all traction in his irrational quest for the irrelevant.  Without conversation skills to support him in the face of a sternly honest man Nate is doomed.  Realizing he won’t get the blood he seeks, Nate does what all cowards do, he runs away.  He tells Humphreys to leave the studio.  Run away Nate.  Run away!

Let’s listen to this next clip

[Clip #5]

Again, working hard to control the rage within, Shelman feigns the ‘polite approach’ one last time as heard in the last clip, he is done losing to a sane and honest man.  "Evil will never prevail in the light of goodness." -- Doel Cam Nai  At this point I’m almost feeling sorry for Nate because his little 3-hour-episode has deteriorated to something less than rhetoric and hubris.  Okay.

Let’s listen to this next clip

[Clip #6]

Temper lost, Nate raises his voice possibly believing that shouting down somebody is synonymous with intelligent conversation.  Of course, it’s not equivalent to anything but the shame of this poor demented little man behind the microphone.  Unable to forge the substance of a real conversation, Nate makes a last attempt to gain control of the situation.  Control is everything to those of his ilk.  Here he all but surrenders to the fact that his ‘prey’ has slipped from his tyrannical grasp and is leaving the studio.  Listen to Nate as he orders the candidate for governor out of his little studio in Boise, Idaho.  Let’s listen to this final clip

[Clip #7]

Nate was obviously having ‘a bad day’ on his broadcast of July 8, 2021, and it showed in his unprofessional and disjointed behaviour.  Nate has long demonstrated his unwillingness and inability to engage in meaningful conversation.  It’s the hubris of this man and his over-blown ego that will not permit him to reality and the human condition.

It’s a crying shame that this sad, sorry little man cannot see how his uncanny failure in the art of conversation and interview.  Perhaps this is what happens when a talking head is given too much leeway and indulgence.  Whatever the case, I wanted you to hear this.  For a real taste of this guy his show is weekdays [except when pre-empted by small college football] from 3 – 6pm.  Before you listen, gird up your loins and prepare to hear a ‘bully of the air’ pontificate to the point of ludicrousness, try to be funny to the point of total personal embarrassment, and pound on people with little to no substance and only anger and derision.

I’m Max, and that’s the way I see it!
