Society has become so numbed, dumbed-down, and thoroughly brainwashed they have lost the ability to think for themselves. Critical Thinking is fast becoming a dying skill as so many people are just too lazy and / or stupid to think for themselves.
A news headline, a soundbite, and perhaps a social media comment are all that are needed for many to form opinions and stand by their ill-informed and under-informed ideas. When one acts on the foundation of ignorance, he or she is doomed to the consequences of their actions.
