‘FAKE’ SERVICE DOGS REVISITED

Again and again you see people ‘gaming the system’ as they bring their dogs into supermarkets, big box stores, even hospitals ‘simply because the can’.  Now, when asked if their pet is a ‘service dog’, these lying sons and daughters of bitches will lie to your face, “Yes, it’s a service dog.  as their ‘road kill’ small dog sits in the shopping basket.  Doesn’t this just piss you off?

Even though it violates health and sanitary code in city, county, state, and even federal law, some store managers are loath to turn away anyone with an animal.  I don’t know what’s going on with management in the Garden City, Idaho store, but it sure is interesting … and disgusting.

Other Walmart stores in the Treasure Valley don’t seem to have this problem, but Garden City’s store sure as Hell does!  You can walk in any time of any day during regular hours, hang out for about an hour or less, and find people with little dogs curled up in their shopping cart.  This is a health hazard!  Or they’ll have even larger dogs in the main compartment of the shopping basket [still a health hazard] or even in the basket of their electric cart!

People, this is insane to the ‘nth degree, and it extends to larger dogs as well.  I’ve seen labs, collies, pit bulls, mastiffs, and all manner of larger dog none of which is a ‘real service animal’.

How to tell a ‘fake’ service dog:

The dog is easily distracted and requires restraint by the owner.

The dog is noisy, yapping or barking or making other random or purposeful noises.

The dog is particularly dirty or smells bad.

‘Toy’ breeds, those dogs tiny enough to fit in a backpack, can never be qualified as a service animal.  Even when trained they are flighty and will ‘break training’ with little to no provocation.

‘Dangerous Breeds’ such as Pit Bull Terriers, Mastiffs, Dobermans are not suitable for service dog assignment due to an unstable genetic makeup caused by hundreds of years of inbreeding.  Their penchant for violence is legendary and they are dangerous whenever in strange company, especially large groups such as would be found in a big box store.

With the ‘fake service dog’ surge in our country, the problem is three-fold:

First:   Store management needs to grow a pair and come up with policy that is in line with the law, and with Corporate Policy.

Second: Local law enforcement needs to come down hard on these ‘gamers of the system’ to make an impression they might remember.  After all, a few fines are all it takes to curb bad habits.

Third: There needs to be a ‘standard’ for definition of ‘service animals’ that fits with law.  Without a law that has teeth in it these bastards will continue to ‘game the system’ endangering everyone in the store.

HERE’S WHY PEOPLE WHO FAKE SERVICE DOGS MUST BE STOPPED!   Now, let’s look at one more aspect.  When a person slips in a ‘fake service dog’ it hurts the genuinely disabled, those who actually need a service animal.  Service Animals’ might be a dog that aids in your physical function such as blindness, deafness, chemical sensitivity, epilepsy, etc.

It does not mean ‘comfort animals’ which is a term the media coined long ago and has absolutely no scientific, legal, or medical basis.  Just because you feel a need to be with your pooch everywhere you go does not give you the right to take your dog everywhere you go!  Even without an unexpected animal attack, a phoney service dog can distract a legitimate, task-trained service dog from his or her job.

Fake service dogs can also create a bias against actual service dogs if they have an accident or incident in a grocery store or other business that allows only service dogs.  In short … too late for that … you dog-loving *Cynophiles need to get a handle on your problem.  And the government needs to get a handle on you!

I’m Max, and that’s the way I see it!
