STICKS AND STONES
Thin-skinned America engages in perennial pity party
I can remember growing up in the 60’s, a time when honesty in speech prevailed. People said what they thought and most bore the brunt of unpleasant speech in the sure knowledge that words couldn’t really harm them. I remember what my grandmother taught me when she said, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names can never harm me.”
If a kid called another kid a bad name, whether or not it was a racial insult, the two might get into a scuffle, and then again they might not. In fact, this was all a matter of social manners and demeanour. People bore individual responsibility as to how they responded to tasteless and nasty speech.
But, not anymore!
Today Americans have become so thin-skinned, especially Democrats, they’ve passed laws controlling what one can and cannot say to another. The advent of ‘hate speech’ has brought our people to a new level of Orwellian Society. If you use the wrong word, especially if it invokes race or sexual preference, you just might find yourself in civil or even criminal court.
People are losing their jobs, reputations, education, and even their freedom for violating speech restricting legislation. Our society has become a Nazi-emulating, self-policing, speech police force. How did we get here? We’ve come too far for anyone to object as society and the media will burn them at the stake, especially if they are public figures.
You thin-skinned bastards make my ass hurt! I’m Max, and that’s the way I see it!
