COVID HYPOCHONDRIA EPIDEMIC!
Media hype has given birth to a new disorder, Covid Hypochondria
Defined, Covid Hypochondria is “an excessive preoccupation with one's health, focusing on symptoms that one might have contracted the Covid-19 Virus.” It’s a real condition as identified by psychologists and psychiatrists across the nation. According to Dr. Steven Rafael Johnston, MD., of the Neuro-Psychiatric Research Foundation, says, “In the past couple of years we’ve seen explosive growth in the number of cases [of Covid Hypochondria] nationwide. Last year alone we saw over a million new cases where people have become deathly afraid of contracting the Corona Virus.”
His is a disturbing revelation, and according others the mainstream media is almost entirely to blame. With their continued and often unscientific hype surrounding the China Originating Virus, their effect on the minds of the American was entirely predictable.
I spoke with M. Rutledge Sawyer of the Truth in Advertising Research Council and what he had to tell me falls right in line with the words of Dr. Johnston. He says, “In counsel with psychologists and psychological researchers we’ve found that the major media outlets have not only contributed to, but actually caused the majority of cases of Covid Hypochondria in patients. Perfectly normal people with apparently no underlying mental conditions are showing up in clinics across the country, rendered dysfunctional to one extent or anther as a direct result of what they have been told by major media outlets.”
He goes on to say, “There can be no doubt that the broadcast, print, and social media have uncanny influence over the mental health of Americans at large. They have brought the art of propaganda to new levels over the past 50 years and have used their time-tested techniques to throw a scare into their patrons on a heretofore unheard of scale. Of the over 1 million new cases reported in 2021, over 680,000 of these people had no previous history of mental illness and had not sought treatment before.”
I was in church just yesterday and listened to an invocation given by a member of the laity. He stood up there at the pulpit and, amid his prayer, showed an acute fear, even dread, as he lamented “this terrible pandemic”. He shook as he whined these words, tying them into the patchwork quilt of a prayer so typical of laity when asked to deliver a public prayer.
As for me, here’s what I think! Pffffttt! How long must the sane suffer the insane and inane whining of the thin-skinned Covid Hypochondriacs of this world! Grow up! Grow a pair! It’s not the end of the world. Unfortunately, you’re still here. Worse yet, you’ll probably still be here tomorrow. Don’t talk to me. Don’t even look at me! Get help!
I’m Max, and that’s the way I see it!
