Out of control ape is shot dead by sheriff’s deputy
Dateline Pendleton, Oregon – An Oregon sheriff shot and killed a pet chimpanzee after it got loose, mauled a woman, and appeared to have suffered a ‘psychotic break’, according to Dr. Alan Sheppard, DVM, a primate specialist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Sheppard says, “Keeping chimpanzees may seem cute and ‘original’ by many but it’s like ‘Russian Roulette’. These animals are highly susceptible to psychotic breaks which send them on a rampage. Please remember that a 3 foot tall chimp can easily overpower a 200 pound body builder. They’re strong. Their grip is powerful, and their bite is horrible.”

Tamara Brogoitti, 68, told the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office that Buck [her chimpanzee] had bitten her daughter in the torso, arms and legs, forcing the injured woman to lock herself in a basement bedroom. Meanwhile the psycho chimp kept throwing itself against the bedroom door, intent on ‘finishing the job’ where the victim was concerned.

When deputies arrived, they found the chimp roaming outside the house and returning on-and-off to the basement bedroom door of the wounded victim. Deputies were given permission from Brogoitti to shoot the ape so they could rescue and treat her badly injured daughter.
While the state of Oregon has laws prohibiting keeping a chimp as a pet, this animal had been a pet long before the law was passed and so it was ‘grandfathered’ in.

There’s no way this woman wasn’t aware of the dangers. I would like to see a HUGE fine levied here.
I’m Max, and that’s the way I see it!
