AOC’s answer to reducing violent crime? Stop building jails.

You’ll probably never hear me say this again. You’ve never heard me say this before. Here goes … In part, I agree with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that we should stop building more prisons and jails. The fact is that every county, state, and city in the country is struggling to keep up with demand for bed space in jail and prison. Why is that?
It’s not what Ms. A.O.C. thinks. It’s not a lack of hospitalization and counselling. It’s a lack of sufficient deterrence. Let’s get right to what you’re thinking: I’m a staunch opponent of the death penalty which has proven to have absolutely no teeth insofar as crime deterrence is concerned.

CORPORAL PUNISHMENT WORKS
-------------------------------------------------------
Bring in Corporal Punishment! A look at countries such as Singapore which cane criminals, the recidivism [number of those who return to jail or prison after their release] is a minute fraction of ours in the U.S.A. and Canada.
Perhaps it’s because we do too much for inmates, offering them a standard of living equal or superior to what they enjoyed ‘on the outside’. Maybe the whole idea of ‘3 hots and a cot’ along with colour television is just too appealing to many of our resident criminals.
If we were to institute caning and a forgiveness programme we could probably tear down 80% or more of our jails and prisons. Oh, the forgiveness programme? It works like this: If a person fulfills his or her obligation to society and is no longer ‘in the system’ such as on probation or parole, then the ‘forgiveness clock’ would start ticking.
-------------------------------------------------------
A FORGIVENESS CLOCK ALLOWS FORGIVENESS & JUSTICE
-------------------------------------------------------
If that person stays out of trouble for say, seven years, then all arrest, conviction, and prison records disappear, almost completely eliminated. “Almost” means these records would be accessible only to a sentencing judge once the person in question has been convicted in court. Access to such information would assist in fair sentencing based on ‘prior criminal records’.
Today the ability to ‘pay your debt to society’ is a fairy tale as all criminal arrest and conviction records follow folks to the gave. With no shot at repentance, why should anyone even try?

WITHOUT A CHANCE TO PAY YOUR DEBT, WHY TRY?

There you have it. Corporal Punishment and a Forgiveness Programme. Think about it. I’m Max, and that’s the way I see it!
