How did these dangerous psychotropic drugs make it to market?

SSRI [Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor] drugs have proliferated the market, being dispensed by pill-pushing psychiatrists in it for the money, and there's a lot to be made.  Today we went through the first 15 minutes of a 26 minute presentation by the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights.

The question is, "Knowing just how 'hit-and-miss' and extremely dangerous these drugs have been shown to be, why are they still on the market?"  Another question is, "How did they get there?"
