Here’s what went down: A Hasidic Jewish family was seated in the rear of the plane with a 17 month old baby. As the baby was being fed, one of Frontier’s Flight Crew/Mask Nazis ordered the couple to mask their child. Now, despite the fact that federal law excludes children under the age of 2 from wearing masks on aircraft, this wasn’t good enough for these little jackbooted airline thugs. A stewardess continued to press her point, and then all hell broke loose.
It seems there was a party of 21 Jewish folks on the plane, a mixture of Hasidic and Orthodox. As the flight crew went into the ‘hysteria’ mode over the infant’s not wearing a mask, the couple was ordered off the plane. They complied, but several other Jewish folks supported the couple in argument against the Frontier Mask Nazis.
As this was happening, the flight crew reportedly vented their venom toward the Jews on board and that’s all it took for the entire party to get up and leave the plane. As these people, innocent of any crime but vehemently against the anti-Semitic edicts of the Frontier Mask Nazis, were leaving the plane the captain ordered everyone off and the flight was cancelled.
Okay, I get it. Flight crew are paid a really crappy wage, about that of a back room worker in a Walmart store. I get it that power corrupts. I even get it that when you are a poorly trained, poorly screened, poorly paid stewardess or steward it’s really easy to drift into your ‘Nazi’ mode and get all high handed. I get it, but do not condone it! It sucks, that what it does!

A Frontier spokeswoman gave a completely unsupportable and highly rhetorical response saying that the crew acted within guidelines and there was no anti-Semitic action onboard, yet three other passengers who were neither Jewish nor part of the group had their masks off … in 1st Class of course.
The Anti-Defamation League of New York has called for a “full and transparent investigation.”
It is my hope and prayer that a transparent investigation will result in policy changes and better screening and training of flight crew. On too many airlines, too many times, these and other conflicts are emerging with alarming frequency. Most these are born of a flight crew incapable of de-escalating a situation. It’s time to reform the steward and stewardess training programmes and screen them psychologically for God’s sake!
